A while ago, I decided that it would be very theologically appropriate for this current war to end right after Tisha B’Av, since everything really fell apart just before the beginning of the Three Weeks.
I didn’t say anything when I first thought this, because I was really hoping that the war would be done sooner than that. Now it’s looking like that would be optimistic, really.
In which case, let’s end this war early, so there’s no clever theological arc to it–not to Rosh Chodesh Elul, not to the hagim. Just some random day in Av would be great by me. I’m sure rabbis around the world will find what to drash from it in their High Holy Day sermons in any case.
Sigh.
