OK, it’s time for another round of de-lurkification! Don’t worry, it won’t hurt.
Really, I’m just curious about who’s reading this thing. Some of you I know, either from Teh Interweb or from my actual real life, but I know there are many of the lurking variety out there as well.
Why not drop a comment to say hi? Maybe tell me either about your superpower of choice, or something related to ice cream.
Also, maybe I’ll open this space up to FAQ-type stuff, if people have Qs they want me to A as a post.
I figured out you mean “de-lurkification.” As long as it’s not “de-uri-fication,” I’m OK with it. Keep up the good work!
OK, I already posted once but if it’s important to you to know, I absolutely cannot resist Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia flavour! They do a frozen yoghourt one now as well as the ice cream, which is supposed to be less fattening. But probably not if you eat the whole tub…
I just started a blog about spirituality, friendship and community and although I’m Christian I didn’t want to be one of those nasty exclusive Christians who won’t play nicely with other faiths. Also I have some family Jewish heritage. So I did some searches for blogs on various faith themes, and yours came up. I’m enjoying it, I wish I had your wit. So that’s why I’m here and mostly lurking.
I don’t know if I’ve delurked before, but I’m a poster who got here from a Bitch byline a while ago. I’m a grad student in New York who works on feminism, politics, and the Middle East in various combinations, and who lives in a queer commune in Brooklyn. I’ve also just stepped into the blogging thing myself, writing about food as a radical political practice–and will probably talk about religion in there occasionally, since I’m a Quaker and it is fairly inseparable from my politics. Anyway, so your blog is totally kickin’. That’s all.
Came across your essay in Yentl’s revenge. Your blog completely rocks =). I’m just a grad student in biochemistry and Jewish History who likes to complain a lot…I am interested in blood cell development and the connection between redemption imagery, messianism and Zionism in Jewish literature. As to what these have to do with each other, I don’t know (well I got interested in making fake blood for people with rare blood types…I guess it could be used in battleground situations). But hi! I’m really looking forward to your book by the way.
Tess, Emily and Yael–
Yay! Thanks for de-lurking! Please comment more! And everyone else–I’m waaaaiting! Give me more! More de-lurkification!! More more more!
hi Danya! I’ve commented before, so I think you already knew I was reading. Superpower of choice would definitely be teleportation. And in response to your post about “Torah for Healing” — it is incredibly beautiful to see how the UJ community comes together to do all they can for one of their own.
Hi Danya,
I came to your blog through your posts on jewschool, which I found to be insightful and particularly geared to my interests. I rejected Catholicism early in life due to its views on the role of women in the church (this was pre-altar girls) and became a secular feminist. For the past two years, though, I dated a modern Orthodox guy (I now know more about halacha than most of my Jewish friends) with no intention of ever converting myself. Despite a real appreciation and even, dare I say it, love for Judaism, I have the same issues with the Orthodox restrictions on women and have struggled with its views on interfaith dating. Your commitment to growing in your religion while at the same time struggling with others’ conceptions and limitations of what your “proper” role should be is what I love about your blog.
I’m a lurker extraordinaire, so I’ll crawl back into my hole now with my bowl of Cookies n’ Cream (Breyers brand please)….
I can’t remember how I first found your blog, but it helped tremendously during a period when I didn’t have much in the way of local Jewish community (at least of the youngish, observant/progressive/feminist sort). I live in Chicago now, and I think we have non-blog-world friends in common (certainly mutual acquaintances). I like lurking.
