Tefillin, regular liturgy, and something vaguely reflecting a routine.
The holidays have been great–really, it’s been a fantastic ’round this year, and I’m sorry to see them go. Simchat Torah was wonderful, lots of dancing and great tefillah and everything. My leg muscles are killing me, in a good way, because I got so much of the Ashkenazi Boogie on.
But every hag has its end, and over here in Eretz Yisrael, hag is over. Tomorrow: back to the grindstone, and real traction to be made on this chapter. Onward!

I like the fact she’s wearing them above the hairline. Who knew Barbie was so makpidah?

It was taken by Frédéric Brenner, and appears in his books “Diaspora” and “Jews/America: A Representation.”
To judge the women favorably, I assume they had just finished davening and forgot to check if their tefillin were still properly aligned before being photographed.

Here’s my bet on the tefillin - they look like they might be a little loose, and the photographer almost certainly spent fifteen or more minutes saying: “Ok, you goover to the end, pick your head up a litle, no, no, you, stand up so that your left shoulder ishigher… ok, that’s it… ”
In the meantime the tefillin are drooping every which way, - at least two or three of the women are holding their heads in a way that suggests to me they’re hoping the tefillin don’t fall down over their eyes….

Showed it to my 8 year old daughter. She would like to know where can you buy her. She says: It’s really nice to see a Jewish Barbie. (As I put on tefilin it looks preety mainstream to her)
