The problem is the length of time it takes them to self-destruct - we'r already environmentally on a path where the best we can hopefor is mitigation, not reversal or prevention (and guess who is going to get the worst of it..). And thats's not even beginning to address all the other areas which are looking pretty dire. Widows and orphans? the stranger/ Well, when the NLRB can't even be counted on to do a damn thing to protect workers rights, prhaps it's time for us to reevaluate exactly how those of us who care are supposed to protect our families and countrymen and women - not tomention the immigrats who only want to feed their families too.

Secondly, the longer we take our time with getting rid of these disgusting people, the more inured we get to evil. As Danya said, where is the embarrassment? The shame? I don't much like the self-esteem programs in schools to teach kids to love themselves. If they're poor, self-love won't help them be less poor, and in any case, self-esteem comes from working hard, not a bunch of psycho-babble, but it does seem to me that the people who most blather about how shame is good etc are those who most lack that quality. I agree, a return to shame and guilt would be a mighty positive step in this country. It just needs to go towards proper channels. I have several suggestions as to whom the first ladles-full should go.

I share your concern, your frustration, and your outrage. It's surreal to me that torture has become an "issue." I don't know that I share your fear about this issue in particular, although I am fearful about environmental issues with respect to this President.

Still, bad guys tend to self-destruct eventually, although it often takes much longer than we wish it would. Bush's popularity is at an all-time low. Maybe people are finally getting it.
