That’s an interesting way to put it. I tend to think that the classical Kabbalists meant it as metaphor. Maybe that’s just me projecting my world view over theirs.

UNfortunately, I think…most not. One of the reason I always like Moshe Cordovero is because he seems to be one of the ones who do. NO, if you want metaphor, I think you definitely have to go to the chassidim.
On the other hand,(never thought I’d say this, ol’
queen of the Maimonideans, for sure….) the cosmology can be enormously useful for divrei torah and other things - I find shvirat hakelim great for counseling.
It’s a-mazing how the place where you serve has a big influence on what you need to say to people….
