the week’s report
April 1, 2005 | Filed Under Blog |Still here, even if I’m a little spotty on posting this week. Between the post-Purim trying to get back to routine bit (lesson learned: scotch hangovers are not your friend) and the fact that it’s suddenly SUMMER out, there hasn’t been a lot of sitting around navelgazing at my computer lately.
Things have been happening, though, I guess. Like I have a gig, this coming Monday, which should be fun. Anybody in the J’lem area, I’ll be talking about my book and other assorted Jewy feministy things at the Fuchsberg Center (Agron at HaMelekh George) at 8pm. And it looks like I’ll be leading a workshop on how to make a girly-shaped tallit katan next weekend (after Shabbos, natch), which should also be a good time. Kind of gratifying–like all this weird stuff I’ve been doing and figuring out on my own all this time might have a chance of actually being useful to somebody else. Crafty girl meets halacha dork, that’s me.
Also did something totally out of character this week–that is to say, I booked tickets for a somewhat spontaneous (ie to leave in 2 weeks) vacation. I am not the world’s most impulsive person in some ways–like I’ll go back to the shoe store 3 times before deciding for sure to buy–and all the more so with plane tickets. Am I SURE I want to do this? Am I sure I’m sure? Have I really thought through all the angles of (blah blah). Introspection can be kind of a disease sometimes. But I was ultimately persuaded to loosen up a little (”What’s the worst that happens? It’s not that fun and you’ve wasted a little bit of time and money. Big deal. And it could be fantastic.”) and I think it’ll be great. Vacation! Travel! So that’s the week before Pesach (we get 2 weeks off for spring break, whoo)–6 days to travel and then 2 days to clean FRANTICALLY and buy food and like a new pot since none of the ones in my kitchen here can be kashered, and then get my yiziyat Mitzrayim (exodus) on. This year in Jerusalem! (Or Haifa, or outside Tel Aviv. Haven’t decided where I’ll be for seder yet.)
Also realized this week that my return to reality America is June 9, not June 15 as I had for some reason thought. Which is a bit of a bummer–I won’t have an extra week to pack up here (finals end June 8, not sure how this is all going to be pulled off) and I’ll be missing the opportunity to spend Shavuot in Jerusalem. Wah! I really wanna! Gonna see if I can still move the date, but I have a sneaking suspicion all the flights are totally booked up already. Feh.
(Hey, is this blog still going to be interesting to people once I’m no longer in Jerusalem? Even if I keep the name?)
Anyway. That, ladies and germs, is the news from here. Time to go to the grocery store and start thinking about getting my Shabbos on.
Merry Shabbos to all, and to all a good day.
You said grok in your last post! And I hope you had a happy Shabbos…
I for one will still read your blog, as well as any articles you contribute elsewhere, once you’re back Stateside.

Probably goes without saying, but I’ll still read your blog once you’re Stateside, and I imagine a lot of your readers will. You have interesting things to say, and I love being able to perch on your shoulder as you move towards smicha.
