Hey Danya! I know where you are coming from. I have been reading your blog for a while now...I wasn't attacking you, it was the mindset of your friend which I am afraid is all to prevalent on both sides....

By the way a copy of your book graces our bookshelf!

Totally. If you read through the archivey posts you'll see that I try to see as many sides of This Whole Mess (tm) as possible, and I'm with you both on protecting people and keeping bombs and weapons from going where they don't belong. That night it was just really interesting to go to a hippie-flavored event and to wind up thinking about the militaristic undertones of... well, of people's lives, you know?

"I just can't stop thinking about the fact that all these people served in the army. They all stood at checkpoints. They all went rifling through some old woman's purse or kept people from getting to work."

There were also those of us who served at checkpoints who made sure those people traveling through checkpoints got through in a expedicious manner. We were courteous, check people's documents fairly quickly and made sure we smiled.

But on the other hand I was also happy to do my job to protect my country. And it's a good thing we checked too, because there was that time we found three ak-47s in someone's trunk...

When I go to East Jerusalem or Arab villages in the north I don't look at every Palestinian as a terrorist. It's not always about the conflict. It can't always be about the conflict. Who can live like that? Oh, that's right. Just about every Israeli and Palestinian. Humph.
